Concerns with SCAMPI-induced overhead in small settings
CMMI is being increasingly adopted by the small and very small enterprises. According to the SEI’s latest Maturity Report, more than 50% of SCAMPIs worldwide are performed in organizational units of 1 to 100 people.
Interpretation of CMMI for small settings is now more abundant, but SCAMPI still poses some challenges. The appraisal method has stringent evidence-based rules, and this may impose process design constrains that are not necessarily aligned with business objectives. Some model practices do generate evidence (ie: direct artifacts) in a more natural way than others, but there are some in which, depending on the context, written evidence is just unnatural.
This presentation will summarize the experience of 37 class A, B and C appraisals in small settings, and will draw some concerns about SCAMPI’s applicability in this context.
